Happy Spring!

We at Amber Wellness Group are so excited that spring is here! Spring is a time of transformation, new beginnings, and blossoming. Unfortunately, for some people the arrival of spring, with flowers, pollens and grasses, begins to trigger a histamine reaction commonly known as seasonal allergies. Common symptoms are itchy, watery eyes; sneezing; runny nose; scratchy throat and headaches. Most people notice that these symptoms are associated with certain trees, flowers blooming and/or grass starting to grow. Here in Portland, this season is now in full bloom!

Addressing allergies from a naturopathic perspective requires a multi-faceted approach:  addressing the underlying issues of imbalance in the immune pathways, the stress load on the body and liver detoxification.

During the allergy season you can support yourself with a diet rich in colorful fruits and vegetables. This will give you more bioflavonoids. Bioflavonoids help stabilize the cells that release histamine into your body. Histamine is what causes your allergy symptoms. Additionally, your liver is trying really hard to process the extra pollen. If you can reduce your exposure to foods and activities that increase the liver’s need to work harder, such as limiting alcohol, sugar and highly processed foods, then you will begin to feel better. Increasing mindfulness, decreasing stress, and getting enough sleep are always helpful strategies for wellness. In the case of allergies, a balanced lifestyle can really help your body process and manage pollen in a more healthful way.

The doctors at Amber Wellness Group are here for you. We will design a treatment plan that is individualized to your seasonal allergens, give you nutritional guidelines and provide you with naturopathic and conventional allergy relief support. We encourage you to take a year-round approach to reduce and prevent your allergy symptoms from happening next year.

Our goal is always to get you on your way to the optimal wellness you deserve to enjoy.
